Kugenuma Fushimi Inari Jinja (鵠沼伏見稲荷神社)

Until the mid-Meiji period (1868–1912), the area now known as Kugenuma Kaigan (鵠沼海岸), or Kugenuma Beach, was an uninhabited fishing ground, as much of it belonged to the Soshu Shooting Field (相州炮術調練場). When the shooting field closed in 1868, development began, and, in 1886, a seaside resort called Kugenuma Kaigan Kaisuiyokujo (鵠沼海岸海水浴場) opened in the southeastern part of the area — marking the first use of the name "Kugenuma Kaigan." Around the same time, several villas were also built here.

After the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake and the opening of the Enoshima Line by Odawara Express Railway in 1929, Kugenuma rapidly developed into a residential district. Responding to strong requests from local residents, Kugenuma Fushimi Inari Jinja (鵠沼伏見稲荷神社) was built in 1943 by enshrining the kami (deities) of Inari Jinja in Kyoto (now Fushimi Inari Taisha).
Next to the main shrine building is a row of torii (shrine gates), forming a tunnel reminiscent of the famous Senbon Torii at Fushimi Inari Taisha.
Passing through them leads to three smaller subordinate Inari shrines.

Another subordinate shrine, Sorei-sha (祖霊社), enshrines the souls of the shrine's priests and stands beside the torii.
The local community remains closely tied to the shrine. Actor Kohji Moritsugu — known for his role as Dan Moroboshi in the TV series Ultraseven — runs a nearby restaurant called Joli Chapeau and participates in several shrine events. There is even an omamori (good-luck charm) in the shape of the Eye Slugger, the "space boomerang" weapon used by Ultraseven. The shrine also offers a surfboard-shaped omamori, a nod to the area's beach culture.
| Kugenuma Wakimizu |
Visitors can also find a well that provides goshinsui (御神水, "sacred water") named Kugenuma Wakimizu (鵠沼和貴水). The well was drilled in 1994 to commemorate the shrine’s 50th anniversary and is open daily from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The water should be boiled before drinking.

The shrine is also home to the cat, Kota.
