The Indian Drinking Fountain (インド水塔)
On the northwestern edge of Yamashita Park in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture's capital, is the Indian Drinking Fountain (インド水塔).
It was donated by the Indian community as a gesture of gratitude for the proactive relief measures taken by the City of Yokohama for foreign merchants, including Indian traders, following the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake. The presentation ceremony was held on December 18, 1939
The ceiling is decorated with mosaic tiles.
Starting from around 1985, a memorial ceremony is held on September 1 every year to mourn the death of the Indian earthquake victims.
