International Library of Children's Literature

When people visit Ueno Park in Tokyo, they usually head to famous attractions such as Ueno Zoo, the Tokyo National Museum, or the National Museum of Nature and Science. However, standing in a quieter corner of the park is another remarkable destination — the International Library of Children's Literature (国際子ども図書館).

The International Library of Children's Literature is a branch of the National Diet Library and is Japan's only national library dedicated to children's books. Opened in 2000, it serves as a center for collecting, preserving, and providing access to children's literature.

One of the library's greatest attractions is its beautiful architecture. The historic red-brick building was originally constructed in 1906 as the Imperial Library during the Meiji period (1868–1912).
