The Former Yoshidaya Liquor Store (旧吉田屋酒屋)

About a ten-minute walk northwest of the Tokyo National Museum is the Former Yoshida Liquor Store (旧吉田屋酒店), a historic liquor store that operated from the Edo period (1603–1868) until 1986 on the corner of what is now Yanaka 6-chome.

Although the current building was constructed in 1910 and partially renovated in 1935, it retains the architectural style of an Edo-period merchant house.

The building was relocated to its current site by Taito-ku and opened to the public in May 1987 as an exhibition hall of the Shitamachi Museum.

In 1989, the first and second floors of the building, together with its collection of tools and documents, were designated Tangible Folk Cultural Properties by Taito-ku.

• 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
• Mondays (except when Monday is a national holiday, in which case the building is open and closes the following day), and December 29–January 3.
