Nishiiwakuni Station

Nishiiwakuni Station (西岩国駅) is a railway station on the Gantoku Line operated by the West Japan Railway Company (JR West).

The station opened on April 15, 1929, as Iwakuni Station when part of the Gantoku Line was completed between Marifu-cho and Iwakuni-cho. On December 1, 1934, the Gantoku Line was fully completed and became part of the San'yo Main Line. During this period, the station enjoyed its heyday, serving most tourists visiting the Kintai Bridge and nearby attractions.

As the Marifu area developed, Marifu Station was renamed Iwakuni Station on April 1, 1942, and this station was renamed Nishiiwakuni Station. On October 1, 1944, it once again became a station on the Gantoku Line.

On August 3, 2006, the station building was designated a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the Japanese government.

In front of the station building, there is a replica of a charcoal-fueled vehicle on display.
